Frequently asked questions
The awkward ones included. If something here is wrong on your device, tell us and we'll correct the page.
What does the alpha actually mean?
Everything on this page is built and in daily use on our own phones. What it hasn't been through is a public release cycle - hundreds of devices, dozens of manufacturer skins, and the failure modes you only find that way.
So expect rough edges, and expect us to ask what broke. Leave your address and you get one email when your batch opens. Not a newsletter.
Will it work on my phone?
It's an ordinary Android home app: install it, then set it as your default. It needs Android 7.0 or newer.
The AI is stricter - a 64-bit processor, about 615 MB free, and best with 3 GB of RAM. Mouture checks all three before it offers you the download.
Heavily customised skins - HyperOS and MIUI are the usual culprits - restrict third-party launchers in ways we have no code for. Tell us your model and we'll say honestly whether we can fix it.
How do I go back to my old launcher?
Android settings → Apps → Default apps → Home app, and pick your previous one. Five seconds, and nothing has to be uninstalled first.
We mention it because a launcher is an unusually invasive thing to try, and knowing the exit is easy is what makes it reasonable to try at all.
What happens if I stop paying for Pro?
The launcher keeps working, completely and permanently. Home screen, drawer, folders, notes, calendar, contacts, email, search, wellbeing and the reminders you created are free and stay free.
Only what the model writes stops. Nothing is deleted, and the downloaded model file stays on the phone, so resubscribing doesn't mean fetching 557 MB again.
Is my data used to train anything?
No, and the reason is structural rather than a promise: there is nowhere to send it. Mouture has no account system and no server of ours. The model arrives as a file and never talks back to us.
You don't have to take that on faith - every connection Mouture makes is listed, with instructions for capturing the traffic yourself.
Will it drain my battery?
Nothing about Mouture runs the model in the background. Inference happens when you ask for it, and stops when the answer is done.
The one recurring background job is the nightly statistics refresh, and it's deliberately timid: it only runs while charging, while the device is idle, and while the battery isn't low, once a day. If you never plug your phone in overnight, it simply doesn't run.
If you connect an email account, that adds a sync roughly every 30 minutes whenever you have a connection - the same shape of job as any mail app. No account, no job.
Why is Pro a subscription?
Because part of it is a running cost rather than a one-off build: hosting and updating the model, keeping the on-device runtime working across new Android versions and new hardware, and answering the support that a launcher generates.
We also think the objection is fair, which is why there's a lifetime option at €44.99 sitting right next to the yearly one, at three years' worth. Plenty of people who care about running things locally are done renting software, and we'd rather sell to them once than not at all.
There is no ad-supported tier and there never will be, for the obvious reason: it would require exactly the tracking this whole product is built to avoid.
Do I have to download 557 MB?
No. The free launcher ships with no model at all, and a free install never downloads one. The file is fetched only if you subscribe to Pro and tap Download yourself.
One honest caveat while we improve it: the download currently runs in the foreground, so leaving the screen pauses it. It resumes where it stopped when you come back - it doesn't start over - but you should expect to sit with it rather than kick it off and walk away.
